Recent simulations suggest that a dark matter area, also containing some visible stars, may extend up to a diameter of almost 2 million light-years (613 kpc). The Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy with an estimated D 25 isophotal diameter of 26.8 ± 1.1 kiloparsecs (87,400 ± 3,590 light-years), but only about 1,000 light years thick at the spiral arms (more at the bulge). Following the 1920 Great Debate between the astronomers Harlow Shapley and Heber Curtis, observations by Edwin Hubble showed that the Milky Way is just one of many galaxies. Until the early 1920s, most astronomers thought that the Milky Way contained all the stars in the Universe. Galileo Galilei first resolved the band of light into individual stars with his telescope in 1610. From Earth, the Milky Way appears as a band because its disk-shaped structure is viewed from within. The term Milky Way is a translation of the Latin via lactea, from the Greek γαλακτικός κύκλος ( galaktikos kýklos), meaning "milky circle". The Milky Way is the galaxy that includes our Solar System, with the name describing the galaxy's appearance from Earth: a hazy band of light seen in the night sky formed from stars that cannot be individually distinguished by the naked eye. I can literally stand at the science station on the roland and adjust power settings on the Engineering console across from it.Artist's illustration of what the Milky Way would look like face to face. It would probably be a good idea to change that, yeah. Even then, it was very early in the run, and I wouldn't have felt like I'd lost very much.Īlso, until I abused the lack of range limit on interacting with consoles during his trolling, I had honestly believed that you had to be somewhat close-ish to be able to use consoles. If he'd shown up during combat, sure, he could have done some damage. He didn't stick around very long before moving on. The fact that we were just the right variety of noobish to get in the way of his sabotage attempts seemed to frustrate him, and our enjoyment of his antics seemed to dull his enthusiasm. He turned off the reactor safety then ran to the helm, and the safety was back online before he got there. He spammed out all our scientist programs, which didn't matter because we didn't have a full-time scientist to be monitoring them. He reset the power settings which I fixed. He busted a couple of systems the engineer fixed.

Even with just the 2 of us and a weapon bot, the scientist troll we had show up was totally ineffectual in his efforts at sabotage.
#Pulsar lost colony reactor meltdown password
I'd been planning to play solo, but forgot to password protect the game, and had another person join who was even newer than me. I'd actually want to get kicked just to have it happen to me at least once. Not sure if this is meant to be a serious suggestion, but it sounds awesome. If it remains as the one command I'd hope it's only for a single game/session, or comes with an option to reverse it if that isn't the case.Īlso a kicked person should be thrown out the airlock and be forced to watch an un-skipable scene of them suffocating in the vacuum of space. A kick which also functions as a ban would be a sensible precaution. I'd prefer to see separate kick and ban options, personally. Solution- Kicking someone should ban their steam ID from the game. If ANYONE but the Captain pulls that shutdown switch, tell the Captain.Ĭhange your name and rejoin the ship you just griefed, then do it some more. If your Scientist mans the main gun, pop it up on the Captain's screen.

Solution- Major systems like shields, nukes, core eject, distress calls and power should need captain approval to switch on or off, via pop-up or lock out button.īetter solution (also a solution for option 1): Whenever any crew member accesses something that isn't part of their role, the Captain should have a notification. Turn off the entire ship with the flick of a switch. In general, I don't want to see this happen, but at the same time, I wouldn't object to it being available as a toggle (default to friendly fire on).

Solution- Turn off friendly fire for ship systems. Shoot ship systems to destroy them and then leave. It should be a toggle option and should default to off, but it would be nice to see. That said, an option to implement role-locked terminals would be nice for public games to reduce this type of griefing. Keeping an eye out for crew members approaching/accessing consoles that aren't part of their role is part of the Captain's job. There's already a range limit for interacting with stations. Also limit the distance at which a mouse click will work on a station. Solution- Put a switch-able lock button on each station so only the current operator and the captain can use it.
